FROM THE PRESIDENT

1.  Spring Show:    The 2009 show attendance surpassed last year’s Spring Show by approximately 200 visitors.  We believe unit sales of art work also surpassed last year, but dollar sales were down by about 30%.  Auction sales in dollars were also down by about 30%.

Please pick up your work this Thursday or Friday 5-8 if possible.  Registration/Installation starts on Sunday and we would like to get Site Prep done as soon as possible.

2.  Summer Show:  Art in Changing Perspectives:  If you haven’t received your acceptance letter, contact bwacinfo@aol.com.  You must confirm your participation by selecting a Registration/Installation time to bring in and hang your work.  Please go to http://www.bwac.org/schedule/index.php, follow the directions to register and reserve a time slot.   Once a time slot is filled, it is no longer displayed.  If you reserved a time slot in the past, the system will have your information.

Since we have only three weekends between shows, we are planning on having a couple of week night Site Prep shifts on Thursday/Friday, June 18/19 from 5:00 to 8:00PM, the same time that we have week night Checkout for the Spring Show.  You will receive a 50% bonus for working these shifts.  If you are interested in working, you can just show up.

3.  Development Group:  Anyone interested in working on fundraising for their volunteer job, please contact bwacinfo@aol.com .

4.   Summer Registration Shifts:  We still very much need people to work some of the Summer Registration/Installation shifts.  If you’re PC literate and available any of the dates (listed above in Important Dates) please contact bwacinfo@aol.com.

Featured will be clay paintings and wall sculptures that I have never shown before. The opening festivities will be an opportunity for me to share with you the joy that I have had in working on this series. I hope to see you there! During the past year, I have also been putting up a web site which is now ready. It contains an extensive visual gallery of individual pieces, a ceramic biography, my philosophy of work, a calendar of future events, contact information and more. German artist Gabriele Undine Meyer took 16 digital images per day for one full year (May 2008-May 2009), then combined them via transparent layers to create three series’ of work: “Hazy Days”, “Light Days”, and “Dark Days”. The series Hazy Days gives a beautiful impression of painting through photography. The images of Light Days are quite transparent, thus giving a translucent quality to the many layers. Dark Days is a look into the darker side of daily life. This new group of works by Meyer seeks to give an impression of the complexity of everyday life, the thousands of layers of perceptions that humans experience during a single day. The pieces serve to remind us of the little moments, hidden secrets and undercurrents of life that we would normally ignore, opening a world of forgotten treasures that can be rediscovered whenever they are looked at anew.
